Description
An account of the resource
From a series of five prints with color variations, Above the Farm depicts a vibrant and ethereal arial perspective of Midwestern farmlands. The unnatural colors and unusual perspective emphasize the decorative patterns and visual energy of agricultural lands and challenges the viewer's preconceptions about Midwestern "Flatlands"

Description
An account of the resource
In this piece, Damitz depicts a fanciful view of Norway inspired by writer Bayard Taylor’s travel stories. Damitz was also influenced by Romanticism and Norwegian folk art. While this painting is in conversation with contemporary American art, like the Hudson River school, Damitz' invented proportions for objects like the ship and church show that he is ultimately denying the American ideology of visuality as facticity.

Brachyramphus Temminckii is the scientific name for a bird, otherwise known as an Auk. Elliot was a scientist, rather than artist, so it is sensible that this piece exemplifies the scientific gaze.

Description
An account of the resource
One of Wood’s last works, Family Doctor depicts the slender and capable hands of Wood’s own doctor, Dr. A.W. Bennet as he holds a thermometer and stethoscope. Wood’s focused, detailed vision creates a deeply personal portrait of the doctor as a kind, simple, and intellectually focused porfessional. Focusing on the doctor’s hands in conjunction with the medical supplies suggests the skill of the doctor’s hands as important tools.
